tortoise creek cabernet sauvignon review
The Tortoise Creek Cabernet Sauvignon is grown in Lodi, California (right around Sacramento), in a single vineyard, called the Cherokee Lane Vineyard. This wine is certified sustainable by the Lodi Rules, a 3rd party group that requires growers to use a wide range of sustainable practices in their farming operations. We love sustainable farming, so this wine is already off to a great start!
The wine has aromas of dark, black cherries, plus a really yummy vanilla note. It’s a rich, smooth wine with those ripe cherry flavors that we smelled. It finishes with a flavor that’s a mix of vanilla, cedar, and baking spice that comes from the oak again. 40% of the wine has been aged for a year in American and French oak, so the flavor isn’t overpowering, just a nice finishing note to go along with the fine grained tannins.
The normal retail price on the bottle is about $10, and I absolutely love all of the Tortoise Creek wines for the value they present. If you’re looking for an affordable California Cabernet, I highly recommend this bottle!
cabernet sauvignon food pairing suggestion
You simply cannot go wrong by pairing this swine with a hearty steak, or other beef item like a yummy burger or rich stew. Here are some recipe suggestions:
- Ribeye Steak au Poivre – this classic French steak sauce (pictured above) would be great with this wine!
- Steak with Red Wine Mushroom Sauce – another classicly styled recipe, use some of this wine in the sauce, and then enjoy with the steak later!
- Beef Stew – whether you make it in your slow cooker, or on the stovetop, this is a great pairing for Cabernet.
