le charmel rhône valley wine review
The Le Charmel Rhône Valley red wine is grown in the Costières de Nîmes area of the Rhône wine region. This area has been growing wine since before Roman times, and produces affordable, high quality wines. The Le Charmel blend is made from 70% Syrah, and 30% Grenache, all sourced from sustainably farmed vineyards.
Aromas of bramble fruit leap out of the glass with this wine. When I smell this wine, I get hints of blackberry, raspberry, and boysenberry all coming together to make one deliciously juicy fruit aroma. The wine is rich and smooth, for an easy drinking red blend. Flavors of bramble fruit combine with some notes of chocolate and baking spice. There is no oak influence on this wine, keeping the finish clean and full of fruit flavor.
The normal retail price on this wine is about $12, and I think this is well worth the price tag. Many Rhône-style red blends like this start at around $15, and aren’t always as high of a quality. This wine is great with food, or on its own, so I recommend keeping a bottle around for every day drinking, it’s yummy and a great value!
Rhône Blend food pairing suggestion
Rhône-style blends of grapes like Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Mouvedre, Carignan, and more are perfect with BBQ and grilled foods. The red fruit flavors and acid levels highlight the smoky, sweet, and spicy flavors you’ll find in barbecue seasoned foods right off the grill or smoker. Here are some recipes to try with this wine:
Smoked Baby Back Ribs – add BBQ seasoning, sauce, and smoke on top of some ribs, and you have a match made in heaven!
BBQ Pulled Pork Shoulder Roast – just like the ribs, pulled pork will be soooooo good with this wine!
Texas Smoked Brisket – with a crust of just salt and pepper on the outside, the big red fruit flavors in this wine will be a perfect complement.
Master Wines – the information page from the producer of this wine.
Rhône Wines Costières de Nîmes – a page from the official Rhône Valley growers page sharing information about the region.
Wine Enthusiast – 89 point and Best Buy review for the prior 2011 vintage of this wine.
